Phosphate fertilisers: An energy boost for your plants

Phosphate fertilisers have the unique ability to quickly give plants an “energy boost”, which makes them indispensable during periods of intensive growth. Here’s a closer look at their benefits:

Why are phosphate fertilisers so important?

  • Rapid growth of roots and shoots: Phosphorus stimulates root and shoot growth, which is especially important during critical phases of plant development.
  • Instant recovery: Thanks to the rapid availability of nutrients, phosphate fertilisers help plants recover almost instantly from drought, frost or other stressful conditions.
  • Increased resistance: Phosphorus strengthens the immune system of plants, making them more resistant to diseases and pests. This is especially useful during periods when plants are most vulnerable.
  • Adaptation to pH: Foliar fertilisation with phosphate fertilisers helps to adapt to different growing conditions. This is particularly useful on soils with a high pH, where phosphorus is often unavailable to plants.

It is important to remember:

  • Pay attention to the type and concentration of phosphate fertiliser you use. The optimal ratio of nutrients will ensure maximum fertilisation efficiency and help to avoid excessive phosphorus build-up in the soil, which can have a negative impact on plants.
  • Phosphate fertilisers often combine well with other fertilisers such as nitrogen or potash fertilisers. However, a compatibility test should be carried out before mixing fertilisers to avoid undesirable reactions.

For example: Phosphate fertilisers should not be mixed with calcium fertilisers (e.g. calcium nitrate) in the same tank solution. When phosphorus and calcium are mixed, insoluble calcium phosphate can form, which is not absorbed by the plants and can clog the spray nozzles.
